GREENSBURG –Bishop Larry J. Kulick invites the faithful to a service of Lessons and Carols at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m.
Lessons and Carols dates back to the late 19th century. It calls us, through nine readings of Scripture, to recall the fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Between each lesson, carols are sung.
Lessons and Carols features the music of Advent and Christmas with the Diocesan Choir and the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Choir. For the first time, the choir will include Catholic school students performing in the Diocese of Greensburg Catholic Schools Honors Choir.
“It is a beautiful tradition that allows the participant to journey through salvation history to the incarnation of Jesus through scripture and song,” said Dr. Thomas Octave, Diocesan Director of Sacred Music. “It allows the participant to enter into the beauty of the Advent season.”
Lessons and Carols has been held at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral for 18 years. The service is open to the public.
