GREENSBURG – The Most Reverend Larry J. Kulick, Bishop of Greensburg, celebrated Mass on Dec. 12, The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, for the dedication of a new Chapel within the Pastoral Center in Greensburg. The Chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, was created in a renovated room and was dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, the patroness of the Diocese of Greensburg.
Bishop Kulick blessed the new Chapel and dedicated its altar, which is from the former Holy Rosary Church in Republic. The medallion on the front of the Altar is new. It is a hand carved Lamb of God (Agnus Dei) created by a Ukrainian artist. The relics placed into the altar are from St. John Paul II, Blessed Clelia Merloni, Blessed Rolando Rivi.
Bishop Kulick pointed out that the items in the chapel are representative of the Diocese of Greensburg.
The tabernacle is from Blessed Sacrament Cathedral and is representative of our Mother Church. The Crucifix is from the former Bishop’s Residence Chapel, representing the previous Bishops of the Diocese. The candlesticks are from the former Saint Ladislaus Church, Natrona, PA. The statues of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus remember that once, the Diocese of Greensburg was part of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. They are from the former Holy Wisdom Parish on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Pews in the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel are from the Sister of Saint Joseph Convent, New Kensington, calling to mind the religious who serve the Diocese.
The Station of the Cross and the Sacristy Bell for the chapel are new and were designed and made by Adrian Hamers, New York.
The new Chapel is designed for worship and meditation for employees of the Diocese of Greensburg.
