Latrobe – Mar 30 – Each year during Catholic Schools Week, students at Christ the Divine Teacher participate in a spirited Penny Wars competition. On designated days of the week, students bring in their pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars to be donated to a chosen charity. This year, the school’s Student Government Committee chose a new foundation that is near and dear to our school, Bernie’s Beach House Foundation. Founded by her mother, the foundation was established in memory of CDT alum, Bernadette Flowers, who passed away 5 years ago from childhood brain cancer at the age of 17. Bernadette had a special love for the beach and the foundation helps to provide beach vacations to families of children with cancer.
The Christ the Divine Teacher School Community was honored to present Bernadette’s mother, Stephanie Apone, with a check totaling $4,000 after its weekly school Liturgy on March 29th at Holy Family Church.
