Jubilee of Hope Concert at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral
As we celebrate this Jubilee Year, we are pleased to invite you to a special evening of music and reflection at the Jubilee Concert of Hope on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.
This concert will feature the world premiere of the “Stabat Mater,” a moving new composition by Nancy Galbraith, Professor of Composition at Carnegie Mellon University School of Music. The text of the Stabat Mater, is taken from the text of the traditional hymn, “At The Cross Her Station Keeping”. In celebration of the Jubilee Year, the Diocese of Greensburg is pleased to premiere this sacred work of music.
The second piece of music that will be performed is the “Passion According to Saint Matthew”. This piece was premiered in 2015 by Dr. Thomas Octave, the Diocesan Director of Sacred Music and has been performed throughout the world with great acclaim. The work invites the listener to reflect deeply on the Passion of Jesus Christ.
Pope Francis has invited the Church throughout the world to unite in prayer, pilgrimage, reflection, and service in this Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis has called for moments as well to honor great sacred works of art and music to open our hearts to God’s call to all people to be people who bring hope to our world. We invite you to join us to reflect on God’s love for all of humanity through the music of Nancy Galbraith as we reflect on Jesus’ Passion and Mary’s sorrow at the foot of the cross.
We would be honored to have you join us for this remarkable evening celebrating faith, music, and community. The evening features the Diocesan Choir of Greensburg, the Westmoreland Choral Society and the Diocesan Festival Orchestra.
