Free Jubilee Year of Hope Concert features world premiere of new composition

GREENSBURG – Jesus’ passion. Mary’s sorrow. A powerful expression of music will be free and open to the public in Greensburg as we enter Holy Week 2025.

As the Universal Church continue to celebrate the 2025 Jubilee Year, Pilgrims of Hope, Bishop Larry J. Kulick invites the faithful to a special evening of music and reflection at the Jubilee Concert of Hope, Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg.  The concert will feature the Diocesan Choir of Greensburg, the Westmoreland Choral Society and the Diocesan Festival Orchestra.

“The Holy Father, Pope Francis, calls on us to unite in prayer, pilgrimage, reflection, and service in this Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope,” Bishop Kulick said.  “In asking the faithful to act during this Jubilee Year, he has called for moments to honor great sacred works of art and music to open our hearts to God’s call to be people who bring hope to our world. This special evening will allow us to come together to bring hope to our world and to our Diocese.”

The concert will feature the world premiere of the “Stabat Mater”, a moving new composition by Nancy Galbraith, Professor of Composition at Carnegie Mellon University School of Music. The second piece of music is the “Passion According to Saint Matthew” is also by Nancy Galbraith. The work invites the listener to reflect deeply on the Passion of Jesus Christ.

Bishop Kulick calls the Jubilee Concert of Hope a remarkable way to celebrate faith, music and community before the start of Holy week. “This evening will help all of us reflect on God’s love for all of humanity and reflect on Jesus’s Passion and Mary’s sorrow at the foot of the cross.”

While concert tickets are free,  registrations are being accepted for the Pre-Concert Reception, which will take place from 5:00-6:45 p.m. in the lower level of the Cathedral. Reception tickets are $75 each and include cocktails, salad and pasta stations, and dessert bar.
