Gatti named as principal of Mother of Sorrows Catholic School in Murrysville

GREENSBURG – Dr. Nancy Rottler, Superintendent of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Greensburg, has announced Darcie L. Gatti as Principal at Mother of Sorrows Catholic School in Murrysville. Gatti replaces long time principal Theresa Szmed, who became principal at Greensburg Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School earlier this year.

Gatti comes to Mother of Sorrows Catholic School from the Penn Hills School District, where she has served as an associate principal and head principal since 2008. Prior to that, Gatti was an associate principal and head principal in the Mount Pleasant School District. Beginning her career more than two decades ago as biology educator, Mrs. Gatti appreciates the value of STEM education. Mrs. Gatti looks forward to examining opportunities to expand these experiences for students at Mother of Sorrows Catholic School. “During her career as an associate elementary school principal, former middle school associate principal, and high school principal, Mrs. Gatti brings a wealth of curricular expertise as a former classroom teacher and administrator,” said Dr. Rottler. “I am delighted that through her extensive administrative experience, she will carry on the tradition of excellence.”

Gatti received her Bachelor of Arts in Education with a Biology Certification for grades 7-12 from Mercyhurst University, formerly Mercyhurst College. She received her Master of Education with a K-12 Principal Certification at California University of Pennsylvania, now known as PennWest California. “As an effective administrator, my goal is to communicate with staff and the community on a continuous basis,” Gatti said. “Supporting school activities and events, building relationships with the families, students, and staff enhances communication so that we can continue to build upon the wonderful, positive school culture and climate at Mother of Sorrows Catholic School,” Gatti added.

Mrs. Gatti and her family are active parishioners at Mother of Sorrows Parish and involved in a variety of ministries. Monsignor Michael Begolly, Pastor of Mother of Sorrows Parish and Chair of the Board of Trust Administrators, said he “looks forward to working with Mrs. Gatti in continuing to deepen the Catholic identity of the school and fostering a sense of discipleship within the school community.”
