GREENSBURG – Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg is hosting its first ever Generous Hearts Family Resource Fair Monday, June 5.. The fair, which takes place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., will be held in the parking lot at Catholic Charities, 711 East Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg.
Melaney Hegyes, Managing Director for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg, is grateful for the many generous donations of baby supplies collected from parishioners in the Diocese of Greensburg who serve as volunteers for the Walking with Moms in Need program. At the fair, the supplies will be provided free of charge to anyone in need.
“Our caseworkers handle over 1,000 calls requesting assistance per month,” Hegyes said. “While it may seem as if everyone knows we are here to help, it isn’t always the case, especially for those that have not had to seek out assistance before. We want to make sure people that have a need know where they can find assistance, not just from us, but from other agencies that will be joining us on this day.”
The youth and family event will feature ultrasounds offered by TryLife Center, Lower Burrell; dental cleanings for children provided by Golden Onsite Dental; the United Way Book Mobile; and Haven May and her therapy dog, Poppy.
“I hope that families leave with supplies and services that help to meet their basic needs, from clothing to health checkups to food, but also with the sense of hope that while they may be experiencing difficulties, there is still good in our communities, there are still people wanting to help support one another,” Hegyes said.
Volunteers are needed for the event. If you would like to volunteer, contact Catholic Charities at 724-837-1840.
