Father Warren D. Murrman, OSB

Assignments: Father Warren has primarily worked in the Archabbey’s educational apostolates. He taught at Saint Vincent College from 1982 to 1990, but primarily served at Saint Vincent Seminary, teaching full-time from 1969 until 2019, then part-time until 2023. He was also Seminary chaplain from 1969 through 1971 and Academic Dean from 1970 until 1981. After his part-time service at the Seminary concluded, he was presented with the Nova et Vetera award for distinguished service to Saint Vincent Seminary for fifty-four years of faithful service.

Other roles: include serving as a member of the Board of Wimmer Corporation (1974–present); a member of the Board of Directors of Saint Vincent College (1976–1980, 2012-2024); a member of the Monastic Council of Seniors (2008-2017) and on the Archabbey’s Liturgy Committee. He has also been assistant master of ceremonies (1959–1964); socius of novices (1962–1964); editor of the Saint Vincent Oblate (1962–1964); ridge procurator (1970-present); and was a regular confessor for the Benedictine Sisters at Saint Emma Monastery, Greensburg, for more than 40 years. He assisted the Catholic Campus Ministry at Penn State University by providing a monthly Mass in Spanish (2001-2020), and has served as master of novices at the Archabbey (1990-1997, 2013-2019).

Other:  He holds memberships in the Catholic Theological Society of America, and the North American Academy of Liturgy. He is a past member of the Liturgy Commission of the Diocese of Greensburg. He was a member of the Westmoreland County Agricultural Land Preservation Board (1998-2019). Father Warren was named an honorary member of G.T.E.V. D’Lustigen Isartaler for support and periodic priestly services rendered from 1990 to 2022. The group is a Bavarian cultural and social organization headquartered in Pittsburgh.

Father Warren was a history editor of Saint Vincent Past to Present: A Visual Journey, published by Archabbey Publications in 2008. He was an editor and co-translator of the book Boniface Wimmer: Abbot of Saint Vincent in Pennsylvania, written by Father Oswald Moosmüller, O.S.B., and published in English in 2019 by Archabbey Publications. In 2022 Archabbey Publications privately published his history of the Archabbey’s endeavors on Chestnut Ridge, A History of ‘The Ridge’: The Saint Boniface Woodlands Property on Chestnut Ridge Owned by Saint Vincent Archabbey.

At Saint Vincent College, Father Thomas assisted in the Office of Institutional Self Study (1976-1978) and was a lecturer in religious studies and philosophy (1976-1978); assistant professor (1982-1987), associate professor (1987-1993) and professor (1993-2009) in the departments of theology, psychology and philosophy.

He also served on the Council of the President of the American Cassinese Congregation from 2001 to 2008. He hosted the program “Insights, Religion from a Psychological Perspective,” on WEDO Radio, McKeesport (1988-2008); “Real to Reel,” WTAE-TV, Pittsburgh, where he was co-host of a magazine-format religious program (1991-1999). He has been a guest and host on “The Inner Life” on Relevant Radio, a national Catholic Radio network (2006-2008) and on EWTN. Besides his books, Father Thomas has published numerous articles and book reviews in The International Review of Psychoanalysis, The Psychoanalytic Quarterly, The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Louvain Studies, The Priest, New Catholic World, Bijdragen Tijdschrift voor filosophie en theologie, Psychoanalyse, and Over De Grens, A Festschrift Honoring Antoine Vergote.

Assignments: His service at Saint Vincent Archabbey includes acting as assistant to the prior (1986), member of the retreat program staff (1987), assistant to the vocation director (1987-1989); curator of the Archabbey coin collection (2011-2020), and member of the faculty and staff of Benedictine Priory and Benedictine Military High School, Savannah, Georgia (1992-2011). While he was in Savannah he also served as procurator of the Benedictine Priory (1997-2007). He was named assistant to the Archabbot (2012-2024) and assistant archivist (2012-2020). He has served as junior master (2013-2018) of the monastic community.

Military Service: Upon graduating from High School, he joined the Navy and served onboard four different ships in deployments to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, and South America. In 1989,  Deacon  Risker and his wife, Vickie, also a Navy Veteran, transferred from Guam to San Diego, California, and called Lemon Grove their home for the next 35 years. He retired from the Navy in 1997 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, but continued to serve our country as a civilian, as an IT professional providing the Navy with Network Engineering and Cybersecurity and retired from that position and moved to Irwin.
