More than 1,000 attend latest KNOW HIM: Rome Event

GREENSBURG — Close to 1,100 participants gathered at Christ Our Shepherd Center for KNOW HIM: ROME — A Journey Through the Eternal City Sept. 25.
The experiential and immersive experience took the faithful on a journey through the Arch of the Diocese of Greensburg and into Saint Joseph Chapel to experience the Jubilee Year of Hope Pilgrimage on a personal level through those in our Diocese who made the trip earlier this year.

Organized by the Offices of Faith, Family and Discipleship and Communications, the event took participants into a re-creation of the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. The basilica is believed to be built over the tomb of Saint Paul, who was martyred in Rome. It is a major pilgrimage destination, particularly during Jubilee years, and holds a significant place in the Catholic faith for the spiritual journey of believers. The basilica houses a collection of art, including a complete series of medallions depicting all the Popes, as well as mosaics and sculptures that tell the story of Saint Paul and the early Church. Those attending the event saw replicas of some of the medallions of Popes through history and were able to send a message or prayer intention to Pope Leo XIV, which will be mailed from the Diocese to the Holy Father.

Participants also visited a recreation of the Colosseum in Rome to learn about the early lives of Christians and the significance of this landmark to our faith. They visited a replica of the ancient catacombs and learned how ancient Romans commemorated the deaths of loved ones, including a meal for the deceased.
The faithful are asked to mark their calendars for the next KNOW HIM event on March 19 when the Diocese presents KNOW HIM: The Diocese of Greensburg, to begin the celebration of the Diocese’s 75th anniversary.
