Ordination: Behind the Scenes
By Jerry Zufelt, Contributing Writer
Because attendance at Bishop Larry J. Kulick’s Ordination and Installation Mass Feb. 11 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, was by invitation only and limited to prioritize the health and safety of the entire community, the Diocese’s Office of Communications and Evangelization and the Office of Information Technologies teamed up to livestream the Mass so people could join in the celebration regardless of where they were in the Diocese or anywhere around the world.
In addition to streaming the Mass on the Diocesan website, Facebook page and YouTube channel, the effort also made it possible for EWTN (the Eternal Word Television Network) to broadcast the Ordination and Installation Mass.
Temporary workstations were set up outside the cathedral’s control room where the broadcast was coordinated.
At top, from left, Robin Mull and Jennifer Miele of the Office of Communications and Evangelization and Karen Cornell and Brian Evans of the Office of Information Technologies monitor the broadcast and social media. Msgr. James T. Gaston and Msgr. Michael J. Begolly provide expert commentary during the Mass, and John Zylka of the Office of Communications and Evangelization operates the cathedral’s four-camera system.
The Mass and a one-hour special about the bishop that aired prior to the Ordination and Installation can be viewed by visiting DioceseofGreensburg.org (click on the YouTube icon on the homepage).
