Queen of Angels: A renovation Initiative

NORTH HUNTINDON – Queen of Angels Catholic School has a long history of providing faith-based education for students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

The quality of education at the facility and expanded educational offerings have sparked growth at the school, increasing enrollment by 40% in recent years.

In response to that growth and to assure its facilities are positioned to serve students in the future, the school has launched “The Growing Up Project,” a multi-faceted initiative aimed at upgrading the school with vital capital improvements and program enhancements.

Principal Jennifer Filak said part of the initiative is an upgrade to the electrical system that will include a generator and energy-efficient air conditioning units in classrooms.

“These improvements will increase safety, energy efficiency and comfort, creating a supportive learning environment for both students and staff,” Filak said. “The generator will ensure uninterrupted power during outages, protecting essential systems and operations. The addition of air conditioning units will improve the learning environment by providing consistent climate control.

“These upgrades align with our commitment to safety, sustainability and operational efficiency, ensuring that Queen of Angels can continue to deliver excellence in education,” she said.

Filak said the significant enrollment growth, due to the expansion of early childhood and elementary programs, placed additional demands on the school’s infrastructure, making The Growing Up Project an essential step in meeting the needs of a larger, more diverse student body.

The project is funded in part by a $159,000 grant from the Scott Electric Foundation. The school is also leveraging support from fundraising events and private donations.

Work on the electrical upgrades began in late 2024, with completion expected before the start of the 2025-26 school year.

“The timeline ensures minimal disruption to our students’ educational experience while enabling them to benefit from the enhanced facilities in the upcoming academic year,” Filak said.
