LATROBE – Dec. 26 – If you are looking for something to do with the family this week between Christmas and the New Year, consider a visit to Saint Vincent Basilica. The parish will hold an open house at the historic church Thursday, Dec. 29 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
According to Kristina Davies, Director of Adult Faith Formation, the idea for this first ever open house started when its pastor, Father Richard J. Ulam, O.S.B., was speaking with a person attending a funeral Mass at the basilica. The man was struck by the beauty of the basilica and said it was his first time inside the church because he thought the public was not allowed inside.
“As disciples of Christ, we want to welcome the community to the basilica and to see it’s beautiful arch, tour the main floor and the crypt below,” Davies said. “Most of all, we hope that those attending may want to spend some quiet time in prayer.”
Davies says guides will be available through the basilica to provide information about and to answer questions. Refreshments will also be available for those attending
Reservations for the open house are not required. St. Vincent Basilica parish is located at 300 Fraser Purchase Road, in Latrobe. For more information, you can call the basilica at
