Sister Maria Angelina Grimoldi, of Mt. Pleasant, PA died on March 12, 2026, at the age of 89 at her home, the convent at Verna Montessori School in Mt. Pleasant, PA.

She was born Adriana Grimoldi on October 30, 1936, the daughter of an Italian construction worker, the late Mario Grimoldi and her mother, the late Angelina Caimi, a home maker in Gerenzano, Italy.

Through the admiration she had of a dear friend, who became a Sister, she had a vocation to the religious life; and chose to serve through The Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception of Ivrea (SCIC), a Roman Catholic congregation founded in 1828 by Blessed Antonia Maria Verna near Turin, Italy.  SCIC focuses on charity, education, catechesis, healthcare, and serving anyone in need.  They also operate the Verna Montessori School in Mt. Pleasant, PA.

Adriana Grimoldi joined the order of SCIC, made her first profession in August 1960 and she took her religious name, Sister Maria Angelina Grimoldi.  She came to the United States from the novitiate at the age of 24 and has been here for 65 years.

She was one of the original sisters who came to the newly erected Diocese of Greensburg.

She is survived by one sister, Carla and her husband, Salvatore Botrugno of Italy, her nephew, Marco and his wife Nadia Napolitano of Italy, and her three great-nieces, Arianna, Sabrina, and Fedrica.  Arianna married Frank and moved to Oregon where they currently have a son, Coelum.

Sister’s Funeral Mass  was held at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by the Most Reverend Larry J. Kulick, Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg, the Very Reverend Paul Lisik, and Monsignor James Gaston.  Interment followed in St. Pius Parish Cemetery.
