Father Michael P. Sikon, a priest in the Diocese for 30 years, passes away at age 58

The Reverend Michael Paul Sikon, a priest of the Diocese of Greensburg for 30 years, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Severna Park, Maryland at the age of 58 following an extended illness.

Fr. Sikon was born April 21, 1968, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the second child of Leo M. Sikon and Nancy L. (Geary) Sikon.  He was a native of Everson, Pennsylvania, and a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Everson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leo (2005), mother, Nancy (2009), a brother, Thomas (1972), numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, family members, friends, and parishioners.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Tawni (Sherwood) Sikon, his niece Sydney and husband John Kearney and their children, Avery, Tucker and Greer, his nephew, Russell Cole Sikon and his partner Peter Trouba, and his niece, Samantha Sikon.
Father Sikon, who grew up in Everson, and attended the former Saint Joseph Catholic Grade School in Everson.  He was a proud “Gator,” having attended Geibel Catholic High School, and a proud “Panther,” attending the University of Pittsburgh and graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business.  He attended Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe PA and obtained a Master of Divinity degree in 1996.  Fr. Sikon was ordained to the priesthood on May 18, 1996, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral by The Most Reverend Anthony G. Bosco.

Father Sikon was assigned as a Parochial Vicar at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Parish, Greensburg from 1996 until 1999, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux Parish in Indiana PA from 1999 until 2002.  He was then appointed as Pastor of Saint Mary Parish in Yatesboro as well as Administrator for the former Sacred Heart Parish, in Sagamore from 2002 until 2008.  Father was appointed Pastor at Saint John the Baptist de la Salle Parish, Delmont from 2008 until 2012 and in addition he was named Administrator of Saint Mary Parish Export from 2009 until 2012.  In 2012 he was appointed as Pastor of Saint Thomas More University Parish, Indiana, PA until 2014.  In 2014 Father Sikon was assigned as Pastor of Saint Barbara Parish, Harrison City where he remained until 2026 when he resigned from the parish for medical reasons.

In addition to his parish assignments Father Sikon was appointed as Consultant to the Office of Worship in 2008, and then as Director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of Greensburg in 2009 when he was also named as the Director of Clergy Formation.  In 2014 he was named as Clergy Moderator of Region V.

Friends and family will be received at Saint Barbara Roman Catholic Church, 111 Raymaley Rd., Harrison City on Monday August 24, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and concluding with Evening Prayer at 7:00 PM.

There will be a final viewing at St. Barbara Church on Tuesday, August 25 from 10:00 AM until 10:45AM.  The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Saint Barbara Roman Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Daniel Blout, VF as Principal Celebrant.  

Interment will follow in the Priest Plot at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
