Eucharistic Revival Begins On Corpus Christi Sunday

GREENSBURG – June 13, 2022 – Faithful from across the Diocese of Greensburg are invited to join Bishop Larry J. Kulick on Sunday, June 19, as the National Eucharistic Revival begins on Corpus Christi Sunday. Bishop Kulick will celebrate Mass at Sacred Heart Parish, Jeannette, followed by a solemn Eucharistic procession to Ascension Parish, also in Jeannette. The Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Eucharist will be carried in a monstrance as the faithful walk and pray during the procession.

The Eucharistic Revival is sponsored nationally by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The USCCB  Evangelization Committee began planning for the revival after a 2019 Pew Research study indicated that up to 69% of Catholics do not believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist.

The Eucharistic Revival is a three-year initiative that USCCB says is intended to form, heal, convert, and unite the People of God through a renewed encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist – and then to send these “Eucharistic missionaries” out to a hurting and hungry world.

The milestone event of the Revival will be a National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, IN, from July 17-21, 2024. About 100,000 Catholics are expected to travel the event. Its goal is to animate and strengthen them through a personal encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist.

The National Eucharistic Revival and National Eucharistic Congress are a direct response to the Holy Father, Pope Francis’ call for a “pastoral and missionary conversion which cannot leave things as they presently are,” so that the Church in the United States might be “permanently in a state of mission” (Evangelii Gaudium, n. 25).

The Diocese of Greensburg plans a number of local events and worship opportunities as part of the Diocesan revival effort.
