North Huntingdon – Since 1972, local Knights of Columbus councils have sponsored a Free Throw Championship for boys and girls from the ages of 9 to 14. The event provides an athletic outlet and encourages the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition. Kids compete within their own gender and age and progress from local level to district, regional and state/province competitions.
“This community event was started at St Agnes gymnasium,” said Al Borgony, Grand Knight, St. Jude Council #9019 serving St. Agnes, Immaculate Conception and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parishes. “Many of our dedicated volunteers have been involved as long as me. It is important to provide an athletic outlet and encourage the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition for our kids, and it’s fun. That’s why we do it.”
