Monsignor John A. Regoli, retired priest in the Diocese of Greensburg, died April 28, 2023 at St. Anne Home in Greensburg PA. He was 87 years old.
Born in New Kensington, Oct. 22, 1935, he was a son of the late Bruno and Louise (Rivi) Regoli. Baptized and confirmed at Mount St. Peter Parish, New Kensington, he attended public primary school. In 1949, he headed to Josephinum College in Ohio, for high school, college and seminary. He completed graduate studies in religious education at Catholic and Georgetown universities.
He was ordained a priest May 21, 1961, at the Josephinum Chapel by the Most Rev. Egidio Bagnozzi, Apostolic Delegate.
He served at St. John the Baptist, Scottdale; Seton Hill College, Greensburg; Holy Family, Latrobe; St. Matthew, Saltsburg; St. Mary, Yatesboro and its mission St. Gabriel, Nu Mine; St. Barbara, Harrison City; St. Therese, Uniontown; Holy Family, West Newton; and St. Charles Borromeo, Sutersville.
In 2005, he was named Prelate of Honor to His Holiness, the second highest rank of Monsignor.
He retired in 2006 when he was pastor at Holy Family and administrator of St. Charles Borromeo. He continued to visit parishes around the diocese during his retirement, celebrating Mass wherever he was needed.
Over the years, he had several diocesan appointments including chairman of the Commission of Ecumenism, Dean of the Fayette Deanery, College of Consultors and Priests’ Council.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated on May 2, 2023 at the Christ Our Shepherd Center with Bishop Larry Kulick as the Celebrant and Homilist. Interment followed in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery in the Priest Section.
