St. Paul Parish ready for Annual Christmas Sale

GREENSBURG – NOVEMBER 8 – It’s beginning to look like Christmas in the cafeteria at St. Paul Parish in Greensburg. The annual Christmas Sale kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 9. The Christmas Sale features a great selection of fully decorated artificial trees, ornaments, lights and home décor to brighten your home for the holidays.

The annual sale is sponsored by the Rosary Altar Society at St. Paul Parish.  Nancy Soles, who is the current president, said preparation for the sale begins months in advance with the solicitation of items through bulletin announcements.  Donations of sale items begin to arrive at the cafeteria well before the holidays.

“We organize everything according to category and begin pricing the items so that everything is wrapped up and ready by the time we open,” she said.

Bonnie McCurry, St. Paul Parish Rosary Altar Society treasurer, has helped with the Christmas Sale for nearly 15 years.  Proceeds raised from the sale benefit parish projects.  “We were able to pay for every new window in the church and in the cafeteria,” she said, adding they still have a bank of windows they would like to replace on the left side of the church building.  Over the years, proceeds from the Christmas Sale and from other fundraisers has enabled the Rosary Altar Society to add air conditioners to the cafeteria and new bathrooms, including an ADA complaint facility. 

“We also helped with the payment for an epoxy floor in the cafeteria,” Soles added.

More than 25 men and women have volunteered their time for the sale.  Soles promises those who do their shopping at the sale will get great service.  She said the men who volunteered painstaking made sure all of the lights on the artificial trees that are for sale work. 

“If you buy a tree, the men will box the ornaments for you, take the lights off, pack the tree into it’s box and help you to your car,” Soles said.

During the Christmas Sale, tickets will be sold for the basket raffle. The kitchen will also be open and there will be a sale of homemade baked goods.
