Sister Lorraine Marie was an elementary teacher for many years serving in East McKeesport, Munhall, as well as at St. Ursula and St. Sebastian in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from La Roche College in 1971, along with graduate work as a Reading Specialist at Duquesne University during 1973-74. She also served at the Infirmary at the Vincentian Sisters Motherhouse in addition to helping with the daycare programs.
Since March of 1996, she had to overcome many physical obstacles as a resident of the Vincentian Nursing Home. Sister Lorraine Marie always had a helping hand to give to others. During her stay at Vincentian Home, she worked to serve the other residents by providing pastoral care in the tradition of St. Vincent De Paul. She loved to reminisce with the residents about their past. She was able to help those in her own community at Vincentian Home by doing anything that they needed done.
Vincentian Home benefited from her ability to sell tickets to those coming to visit residents. She helped raise thousands of dollars, especially for the annual Christmas quilt raffle. Sister Lorraine Marie was also one of the top salespersons on the SCN annual raffle benefiting the community’s ministries.
She is survived by her extended family, including sisters Marguerite, Rita, Judith, Geraldine, Beverly and Arlene and brothers Joseph and Donald, along with many nieces and nephews, as well as her religious community, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
